‘Preventive Medicine in Ageing Societies’ and ‘Clinical Concepts of Integrative Medicine’

The 4th German-Chinese Conference on Traditional Chinese Medicine took place in 2024 on the premises of Kliniken Essen-Mitte. We were particularly delighted to have the opportunity to welcome speakers from our partner hospital, the Guangdong Provincial Hospital of Chinese Medicine. Thanks to real-time live streaming with simultaneous interpreting, the conference could be offered both online and on site.

Focus on Prevention and Integrative Medicine

The conference addressed the topics ‘Preventive Medicine in Ageing Societies’ and ‘Clinical Concepts of Integrative Medicine’. The focus was on the role of hospitals in prevention, innovative approaches in naturopathy, integrative therapy concepts and modern acupuncture methods.

Cross-Sector Care as a Model for the Future

In the panel discussion, leading experts discussed integrative inpatient-outpatient prevention and therapy concepts as a forward-looking revenue model for cross-sector care facilities. Dr. Gerald Gaß (DKG) shed light on health policy perspectives, Prof. Dr. Georg Seifert (Charité) and PD Dr. med. Thomas Menzel (Klinikum Fulda) presented innovative approaches to integrating prevention and therapy, while Andrea Galle (mkk) addressed the role of health insurance funds in financing and implementation. The importance of integrative approaches and of a focus on prevention became clear from the remarks on cost pressure (high burden of disease, low spending on prevention) from the perspective of German health insurance funds.

Neurophysiological Mechanisms and Heart Health

Prof. Dr. Dr. Jürgen Hescheler (University of Cologne) presented the mechanisms of action of traditional medicine from a neurophysiological perspective. Dr. med. Wiebke Kohl (KEM Essen) presented approaches to promoting heart health through integrative cardiological concepts.
