German Hospital Day 2024: China Theme Day

Public Healthcare Provision in Ageing Societies

· Düsseldorf

On 14 November 2024, the German Hospital Day in Düsseldorf marked an important milestone: the Chinese Theme Day took place for the first time. The platform offered wide-ranging dialogue and exchange between experts, practitioners and decision-makers from the healthcare sectors of both countries. The focus was on knowledge transfer, the discussion of forward-looking solutions and the building of lasting partnerships. At the heart of the event was public healthcare provision in societies shaped by demographic change.

With an expected market volume of USD 2.4 trillion by 2030 and a growing, health-conscious middle class, the Chinese healthcare market is expanding dynamically. One highlight was the presentation of an advanced geriatric care concept from Beijing. In his talk, Prof. Zhang shed light on the healthcare industry of Guangdong, one of China's most populous and technologically advanced regions.

At the same time, the spotlight was on Germany and its hospital landscape, which ranges from basic care to highly specialised treatment. In particular, innovative approaches to nursing management and strategies for staff motivation that have been successfully implemented in German institutions were presented.

The supporting programme was organised in cooperation with Charité Berlin and the Guangdong Provincial Hospital of Chinese Medicine in Guangzhou. The event concluded with a get-together for networking.
